The Westport Bridge
World Guide #14-16-01

Westport Bridge

Crossing Sand Creek and constructed with a Burr Arch truss, this 131 foot long structure was built by A.M. Kennedy & Sons in 1880. It was bypassed in 1979 and allowed to deteriorate until local residents took up its cause and completely restored it in 2005. The Westport bridge is now open to traffic.

Decatur County was established in 1835 and named in honor of Commodore Stephen Decatur, who is principally remembered for his toast on returning from the Barbary Coast: "Our Country, may she always be right; but our Country, right or wong." It is located in East Central Indiana; Greensburg is the County Seat.

Decatur County originally had one (1) covered bridge and it is still standing.

Points of interest in the County include: the Greensburg State Fishing Area and the Courthouse with the tree growing on the roof of the tower.
